There are countless media players out there, but only a few are worth trying. One of them is NicePlayer, which certainly earns its name, due to its simplicity and straightforward functionality. It is an excellent solution if you wish to watch a movie comfortably, without any annoying prompts or options getting in your way. The player is absolutely free and you can have it up and running on your Mac in no time.

The borderless user interface gives NicePlayer a clean and simple look. Basically, when you run the application, a small, black square will appear on your screen. A title bar and basic playback controls will fade in on the interface, when you hover with the mouse cursor on its upper and lower edges. You can also bring up a playlist and populate it with video and audio files by simply dragging and dropping the file from a standard Finder window.

NicePlayer is capable of playing multimedia files from various sources, including CDs or DVDs. Although the player doesn't come with any special requirements, you may find it beneficial if you also install Perian on your Mac. It can be installed as fast as NicePlayer and it enables support for more media formats.

The application places many customization controls at your disposal. You can tweak various aspects of the interface and make certain behavior changes. What's more, NicePlayer provides full support for AppleScript.

Pros

The user interface is clean and simple. The application's controls are quite comfortable and easy to understand. Also, it comes with various customization options.

Cons

There are no obvious flaws to mention. NicePlayer gives you the possibility of watching movies in a comfortable and elegant manner.
